lets 'take a break'

weird how those words are so aptly descriptive

one giving the break

the other receives

he doesnt live here anymore

he used to be there
or i was told he was
i never saw him, he never said boo to me
others of course had seen him
i was just an outsider if i couldn't

i even lied to fit in
i felt bad about that
not bad that i had lied
bad that i had to, just to gain their approval.

its been sometime since i thought about it
either way
but tonight i know
as sure as death rides a fast horse

he's just a fraud
bigger, yes
better, maybe
but just a fraud

the whole

i just stood there, stupified look and all
staring down at the hole.
it hadn't even started bleeding, too soon even for that

then ragged edges flushed with crimson
welling and overflowing
still no pain
rapidly spreading he watched with glistening eye
lifeforce oozing

it came...unprepared
a veteran feeling the screaming terror
love is a battlefield

whole shattered
shards flung

ive got to pick them up

secular suicide

dying completely
too painful too long too final?

self mutilation or public grief
not on your terms its on mine
i decide where to place the blade
you decide how hard to push

the limb falls lifeless
and another and more
the bleeding trunk remains
worth saving?

your words all screamed no
but perversely i wanted it saved
to make it bleed another day

the feel of steel
cold hard edge keen, hungry
i'm making u starve
no blood for you today

ive got saviours
you've got one
a lonely one
his hand slips....
you know you're done

on different courses
on a different chart
the same maelstrom
a universe apart

contemplate and sat there waiting
u once to me invigourating
flashing blade no hesitating
now anew regenerating

Is She Dreaming?

Is she dreaming, or am I?

When she sleeps do the same dreams fill her mind, does she see the same movie I see?
The one where I rescue her and she rescues me.
She is tormented, surrounded and alone
an island of beauty in a sea of hate.
I'm bruised battered and without care.
She pulls me from the water I wanted to slip below.

This dream different, this dream surreal
This dream is life, this dream is real.

I Know a Girl Who Can

I know a girl who can
play guitar and piano
write songs and sing them too
write a poem that would make you cry
make you wanna live and never die
she can write circles around most 'writers' i know
she has transformed her world
from a hell to a small heaven

Nothing scares her anymore
storm clouded thoughts pushed out
no rose coloured glasses adorn her face
reality sux no doubt

Still she searches amongst the shards of life
leaves what she must
saves what she can
wont loosen her grip on things that she loves
she doesnt give up
she has a plan

theres one thing more, this is just the best
it sets my soul free
singing and flyin'
this girl i write about, the talented one
she wrote me a note
and she said that she's mine

Sowing

the seeds are first planted so long ago no one remembers and even then they are
barely scuffed into the dry barren soil. they wont and cant grow when the sun shines hot and there is no rancor to shade them. but one day the sun doesnt shine and that day a little withered green sprout pokes up between the dust of doubt and fear. when the sun returns full blast the next day the sprout is forced to take refuge behind a clump of careless comment and barely survives. another day, the tears shed water the ground and the sprout gleefully drinks it all in. the sun fades as winter approaches and soon there are only part days of sunshine and somedays non at all. other dust settles and every now and then some dirt is thrown around and before you know it there is quite a nice little tree growing there. cept the tree isnt nice...its the tree of death. its the symbol of the end of the relationship. frequent tears water it and the lies fertilize the tree. dirt flung back and forth inevitably falls to the ground and gives the tree more substance to anchor its roots in. soon its such a strong tree that it begins to take over. first the yard then shades the home. its branches brush and tear at the eaves, its roots fracture the foundation and its leaves pile up and decay everywhere. soon the home is only a house and then all too soon no one is left in it at all. the last one to stumble out doesnt even bother to close the door. in his haste he stumbles over a tree root and falls to the ground. moaning holding his bruised knee he glares up at the tree. i should have cut you down when i had the chance he curses aloud. stunned he hears the tree reply, no, you should never have planted my seed in the first place.

Star Death

starred filled summer sky canopy
thin silver spear races across
shooting star spectacle
i squeeze her hand and turn away
both blazed brightly
both burned out

2 q's 2 a's

She was very upfront
might even say blunt
when she told them what was coming down

Said hes riding in here
and it aint for the beer
said hes taking me back to his town

Some canadian dude
hes not being rude
but he dont plan to stop for a chat

They bade her good bye
said we wont cry
Now what in the hell was all that?

Now wont it be fun
at a quarter to one
when the cage owner comes to the door

what you mean she is gone
tire trax cross the lawn
and the note says, don't live here no more

Directions to Paradise

See the tree over there
Go on down past that
Take a left at the corner store
and go right on straight
for about three thousand miles
then slow down and look sharp
you have to make a right hand turn just before the big lake
ease up on the gas and look for the blinding white thing.
Huh? Whats the blinding white thing?
Her smile of course.
Ahhh im almost there, just a bit further
getting out of the truck and running over to her
She wraps her arms around me.
I see your puzzled look friend.
You want to know since when did WI become paradise?
It isn't.
Its being in her arms thats paradise.
Location doesn't matter.

When Someday Comes

Storms surge thunder rolls
black hiss of rain streaming down
shivering together shared smiles
lightning shows stark
lovers looks in the dark.

Her hair smells of rain
clothing soaked
imagination unneeded
beguiling curves show
desires grow

Storm clouds and rains
usually troubling
unaffected we stand in our someday
mere physical things
dont provide strings

free in our thoughts
actions wants choices
only ourselves to answer to
rains dont chill the soul
in our someday

She's Not a Bird, And its Not a Golden Cage

Invisible bars real as steel
surround my baby
He clipped wings and other things
to keep her maybe

For a time the only crime
was in keeping her there
Now that has grown become overblown
with the hatred you bear

Angel she aint neither virgin not saint
and none of us are
Just look in the mirror answer is clearer
then look in your heart

Open your eyes see what you despise
is contained within
Pretend to be right continue the fight
you know you cant win

I was just going past but I see it cant last
youre going to fall
Im standing with her till you become a blur
tumbling off your own wall.
